Hey, I’m Joy! I am an empty nester, married to my best friend Jim, and a Mimi – enjoying the grandmother life. I grew up in a big Italian family. My mom (Joyce) and grandmother (Carmela, aka Meme) were integral parts of my life. They are both now basking in the presence of Jesus, but their legacy lives on thru me and my children. Both of these women taught me so many life lessons – practical ones, spiritual ones, and just how to be a good person. They inspired me in so many ways, so I thought I would share with you what I have learned over the 50+ years of my life from these amazing women and I hope you will appreciate some new things you didn’t know before, or encourage you to keep doing the things that work. I think we all have learned things from our moms … some good and some things we choose not to repeat. We can all agree our moms have a big impact on our lives in one way or another.
I also have 15 years of experience in home/office design, running a successful design business in the Boston area. My mom started a home accessory/furniture/gift store many years ago and that is where I first got the design bug. We sourced all of the product for the store and would implement it into our client’s homes. All the women in my family have a keen eye for design so I grew up with that … none of us has any formal educational training. But life is so much more than just pretty things. We all want to make our house a home, but we want that home to be peaceful, a place of respite, a safe place.
I hope what I share with you is helpful, and if you’re a mom, you can teach your daughters (and sons) and create a legacy of your own. And if you’re not a mom, I hope I can give you insight on how to make your house a home and live your best life.
